Etna and Alcantara is a hike with an easy level of trekking on Etna and at the Alcantara Gorges, available in the period from April to November.

Its success depends on weather conditions, let’s see now all the stages of the hike:

Full Description Etna and Alcantara from Catania

Included in the excursion you have a free transfer, we will pick you up directly from your accommodation in Catania to take you up to the volcano.

On the way, our experienced guide will tell you about Etna’s history from a geological point of view and its main features, including the flora and fauna that inhabit it.

Once we arrive at the height of 2000 meters above sea level, we will make a brief stop to adjust to the altitude and leave for the first stage, the walk on the ancient lava flows, among the inactive craters.

The landscape in front of you is called moonscape and offers an incredible view of the whole southeastern Sicily that will captivate you!

A truly unforgettable walk during which you will have the opportunity to learn secrets and legends about the volcano and take sensational photographs.

The lunch break will take place at one of the characteristic mountain refuges where you will taste delicious typical Sicilian products.

After a short digestive break we will depart for the second stop, the visit of a lava flow cave, another decidedly suggestive moment in which you will enter the belly of the volcano with the professional equipment provided by Etna Est for your total safety.

Now we jump again in our vehicles to move towards the third and last stop, the columnar basalts and cold waters that characterize the Alcantara Gorges, a river that has carved out an ancient lava flow making the landscape unique and fascinating, so much so that it has even been the backdrop for movie colossals!

Tour Schedule

The Etna and Alcantara tour begins around 8:30 a.m. with a free transfer from your accommodation that will take you directly to 2000 meters for the start of the excursion. Insert speech that the exact time will be communicated the night before by the office

The tour ends at about 5 p.m., at the starting point, after an intense day spent among the beauty that most characterizes the Sicilian landscape, its history and myth in the world.

Additional Info

The Etna and Alcantara excursion requires participation of a minimum of 6 people and is among the most interesting excursions right for the variety of landscapes visited. Children can also take part in it and will benefit from a €10 discount on the participation fee.

The excursion participation fee includes:
