Full Description Etna Summit at Sunset

The Etna Summit Craters hike at sunset is a demanding tour suitable for all those who want to challenge themselves with intense trekking, for which one must be sufficiently trained and used to hiking. Children of at least 10 years of age can also take part in the hike, but only if they are used to hiking in nature.

For those who wish to have a special experience and want to feel the power of the volcano in the beautiful setting of the sunset, the Sunset Summit Craters hike is the ideal experience.

It is necessary to be able to move over detrital and sandy terrain, even off the classic paths, because on the way to the summits the paths are often not marked and you may face exposed sections and bad weather.

Our hike starts at 14:30 at the meeting point at the bar “La Terrazza dell’Etna” – Etna South – at an altitude of 1900 metres , where you will meet our volcanological or alpine guide. After a short information briefing about the tour and after acclimatising to the altitude, we will start the hike by taking the cable car to the first stop.

The Etna cable car will take us up to an altitude of 2500 metres. From here we will begin our trek through expanses of volcanic sand and fascinating lava flows, some ancient and some more recent.

Arriving at the base of the summit craters, we will observe the suggestive scenery, unique in the world. From here we will be able to perceive the grandeur of this wonderful active volcano and admire the spectacular view of the Gulf of Catania and part of eastern Sicily.

After taking some breathtaking photos, we will start our descent towards the 2001 crater, where, in addition to admiring the striking fumaroles, we will enjoy the sunset with its stunning colours.

After switching on our flashlights, we will resume our descent to our starting point at 1900 metres. The city lights will provide the perfect backdrop to our trek, so that we can end this exciting experience on a high note.
